There’s trouble in River City! The Music Man marches on the Trinity High School stage when the smooth-talking, Harold Hill arrives in a small, tight-knit town to con the good folks of River City, Iowa, into believing he can teach their children to play in a marching band. The Problem? Some of the town members don’t quite buy Harold’s story.

Congratulations to all the winter sports participants for outstanding team and individual performances this season. Trinity's Mr. Bernie Schum was recently awarded the Excellence in Education Award by the St. Matthew's Chamber of Commerce. This community award is selected by a national board of directors. His award included a check for $400 to use for students and his teaching.
The following is a snippet of what was read about Mr. Schum at the ceremony:
Bernie Schum’s patience is his greatest quality. He’s always been told he is excellent with our students who need the most care and that’s because he’s willing to take the extra time and effort to connect with these students. Bernie is also extremely engaging with his students. He makes them think beyond the standard responses, constantly inviting them to find the through lines and then extend philosophies and thoughts to their logical conclusions. He is excellent at helping students understand concepts which are abstract and difficult to grasp. He knows how to connect with students for whom learning comes easily and those with learning differences who often struggle in school. He offers students multiple avenues for showcasing their learning including traditional tests, projects that help students connect theological concepts with their lives, and frequent class discussions to help students make connections with their peers.
Bernie serves as an indispensable resource to many. His ideas and suggestions serve the school well. His ideas include a successful All-School-Read program, a student book club, and a faculty book club. He has also served as mentor to multiple new teachers, each of whom have benefitted from Bernie’s wisdom and guidance to improve their teaching craft. He is the go-to person for many when they need to bounce an idea off someone and, as one teacher he mentored put it, “You can count on him to give you the advice you need, and not necessarily what you want to hear.”
Congratulations, Mr. Schum!

Congratulations to Trinity junior, Liam Amick, for scoring a composite 36 on his ACT! With Liam's perfect score, Trinity students have now earned 10 perfect composite ACT scores since the Class of 2019. A composite score represents the average of four subject scores from one ACT attempt. We are so proud of you, Liam!

On Feb. 14, the Trinity community celebrates Ash Wednesday beginning the 40 days of Lent leading up to Easter. On this special day of reflection, Catholics wear a marking of the cross in ash created from palms used in the previous year’s Palm Sunday celebration on their foreheads. The ashes symbolize our mortality – “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” They also serve as a symbol of penance during Lent made sacramental by the blessing of the Church.
