Trinity Announces Thomas Cave as Cross Country Head Coach
Louisville, KY. – Trinity High School is pleased to announce that Thomas Cave has been named Head Varsity Cross Country Coach of the Trinity Shamrocks. He succeeds Scott Holzknecht who has served as head coach the previous two seasons.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead Trinity Cross Country into its next chapter as Head Coach. Over the last three years, serving as an assistant coach and becoming a teacher, I’ve grown to fully believe in this school and its mission. Building men of faith and character while competing at the highest levels is something our men will continue to live by each day. We will always display courage, guts, and determination, and we’ll lean on the rich tradition of this program.”
A multiple-time state champion in high school, Coach Cave went on to compete at the collegiate level at the University of Louisville and Bellarmine University. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Coach Cave began coaching athletes at both the middle school and high school levels. Throughout his career, he has coached numerous individual state champions, has been an assistant coach on two state championship teams, and has led club teams that have been recognized nationally. Coach Cave has spent the past three years at Trinity, serving on Scott Holzknecht’s staff.
Director of Athletics Sean Duggins ‘04 led the evaluation of Coach Cave’s readiness for the head coach role. In his evaluation Duggins wrote, “Coach Cave brings a strong background in both running and coaching, with collegiate running experience and years of leadership in the sport. He is highly regarded within the cross country community and has already established an excellent rapport with our student-athletes, coaches, parents, and alumni as an assistant coach over the last three years. As a Trinity faculty member on campus every day, he is deeply invested in our mission and the development of our young men.”
Duggins added, “Beyond his knowledge and passion for the sport, Coach Cave is a mature and dedicated leader who fully understands the magnitude of this role. He has earned the trust and confidence of our administration. Our current school president, Dr. Rob Mullen, school president-elect James Torra, and I are excited for him to take on this responsibility. Most importantly, Thomas knows Trinity’s mission – who we are, what our values are and how we go about building Men of Faith and Men of Character.”
We congratulate Head Coach Thomas Cave.
