2024 KHSAA CLASS AAAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

  • Trinity won its 29th state championship with a 42-23 win over Ryle on Dec. 7, 2024

  • Trinity has won its last 10 appearances in the state finals and 17 of its last 18.

  • Trinity is 29-4 all-time in the state championship game.

  • Trinity made its 33rd all-time appearance in the state championship game.

  • Trinity made its 13th all-time appearance in the Class AAAAAA finals, winning in 12 of its 13 appearances in the Class AAAAAA title game.

  • The Shamrocks, who made the move to Class AAAAAA in 2007, won 14 titles as a member of Class AAAA in their 32 years in such classification. Prior to the creation of Class AAAA, the Shamrocks won three titles as a member of Class AAA.

  • Trinity’s 42 points were its most in the state finals since scoring 56 against Lafayette in 2016 in a win. It was the most ever in a state finals game at Kroger Field for Trinity.

  • Trinity improved to 6-0 all-time at Kroger Field in the state finals, including 5-0 since the event moved to its current site of Kroger Field in 2017.

  • Trinity improved to 11-0 all-time in state finals games played outside the city of Louisville.

  • Trinity trailed 14-0 to start the game.

  • It marked the second state championship game appearance that Trinity overcame a double-digit deficit to win after trailing Bryan Station by 11 in the 2023 41-20 win.

  • The 14-point deficit overcome to win tied for the largest deficit overcome by Trinity in a state finals game to win. Trinity also trailed by 14 in the 1989 state finals against Warren Central before winning 28-14 in the Class AAAA finals.

  • The attendance of 9,156 was the most to see a Trinity game in the state finals since 2017 when 9,791 saw a Trinity win over St. Xavier at Kroger Field. It was the largest attendance involving Trinity and an opponent other than St. Xavier since 2008 when Trinity beat Simon Kenton 48-0 in front of 11,556.

  • Trinity had a streak of nine consecutive state championship games it had played in that it also held a halftime lead snapped when it was tied 14-14 with Ryle at the half of the 2024 finals.

  • Trinity was held scoreless in the opening quarter of a state finals game for just the second time in its last 18 state finals appearances.

  • Trinity has held its opponent to single digits in the second half of its last 10 state championship game appearances.

  • Trinity had multiple rushing and multiple passing touchdowns in a state finals game for the first time since 2017.

  • Trinity's 18 pass completions in the state finals were its most since competing 19 in the 2017 state finals. Its the second most pass completions in the last nine state finals appearances.

  • Trinity has surpassed 100 rushing yards as a team in the state finals in each of its last 10 appearances and in

  • Zane Johnson completed 18-of-24 passes for 195 yards with two touchdown passes. He continued a Trinity school streak of four games without an interception in the state finals covering the 2019, 2020, 2023 and 2024 state finals.

  • Mason Scherer caught all six of his targets in the game for a team-high 69 yards.

  • Trinity had two interceptions in the second half returned for touchdowns, a 35-yard return by Caleb Ricks with 7:35 left in the fourth quarter to go up 28-17 and a 15-yard return by Bailey Vance with 3:15 left to go up 42-17.

  • Trinity has won 10 consecutive games in the postseason. It is the longest postseason streak for Trinity since a 12-game streak between 2019 and 2021. The 10-game streak is the longest of the Jay Cobb era.

  • Trinity head coach Jay Cobb is now 2-0 in his two state finals appearances in four seasons as the head coach of the Shamrocks.

  • Cobb is now 39-18 in his four seasons as the head coach of the Shamrocks with a 15-2 mark in postseason play.

  • Trinity improved to 8-0 all-time against Ryle in the playoffs, including a 2-0 record in the state finals.

  • Trinity has scored at least 28 points in all eight postseason meetings with the Raiders.

  • Trinity met a team from the Northern Kentucky area in the state finals for the first time since 2014 when the Shamrocks defeated Dixie Heights 47-14 in Bowling Green. All-time Trinity is 5-0 against teams from Northern Kentucky in the state finals.

  • Trinity athletic trainer Bill Cubbage won his 17th and final football state title before his retirement.
