Trinity High School announces its 2024-25 varsity basketball schedule. The schedule will feature top competition from Kentucky and around the Midwest, two nationally respected holiday tournaments and the always challenging Louisville Invitational Tournament.
As part of the regular season game schedule, the Basketball Rocks will take on several top 20 programs from within Kentucky and Indiana to include Ballard, Cathedral, North Laurel, Covington Catholic, Lexington Catholic, Male and Madison Central. A January showdown with rival St. Xavier at Bellarmine University is also on the schedule.
The tournament schedule is as strong as ever and will see Trinity return to the King of the Bluegrass, recognized as one of the top high school holiday tournaments in the country, a return to the White Greer Maggard Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic, and the Louisville Invitational Tournament (LIT), featuring the top teams within metro Louisville. Once the post season begins, Trinity will face competition in the 7th Region, as challenging a region as any in Kentucky, as the team competes to defend its regional crown and a trip back to the KHSAA Sweet 16.
Director of Athletics Sean Duggins stated, “Our basketball schedule promises to be challenging, as we’ve purposefully crafted a rigorous schedule to test our athletes and prepare them for a strong postseason run. Our coaching staff, led by first-year head coach Bret Saxton '05, will lead our student-athletes not only in skill development but in the formation of values. We are committed to developing men of faith and character who compete at the highest levels and represent our program and community with integrity on and off the court.”
Head Coach Bret Saxton said, “Coming off a region championship and quarterfinals appearance at Rupp Arena, we understand the excitement and expectations surrounding our basketball program. We’ve had a great summer and fall with Coach Snyder in the weight room, and we continue to collectively improve our fundamentals and understanding of how we’re going to be successful this year as a team. Most importantly, we have a great group of guys who genuinely root for one another, support each other and the coaching staff, and embrace the challenges that we know come with competing at the highest level. Go Rocks!”
From Shamrocks Senior Julius Edmonds, “We faced a lot of adversity last year as a team and we leaned on each other to win the 7th Region and play in Rupp Arena. This season, we have a solid foundation, and I think we can be something special. With hard work and sacrifice, we know big goals can be accomplished. The brotherhood at Trinity is unlike any other.”
