Trinity High School is pleased to announce that John Schmitt ‘90 has been named Head Coach – Bass Fishing for the 2024-2025 school year. He succeeds Kevin Hunt who served Trinity Fishing for the six seasons.

The Trinity anglers recently capped off a historic bass fishing season. Earlier this month, the team qualified four boats for the state tournament, a record for the program, and only one of two schools in Kentucky to qualify four boat teams for state (Johnson Central). At the KHSAA State Tournament held at Kentucky Lake, the Rocks captured 4th place overall, its highest finish in program history.

Coach Hunt remarked, “I have had a wonderful tenure as a head coach at Trinity and I'm so very proud of what our young anglers have accomplished during that time. I believe the program will only continue to strengthen in the years to come.”

John Schmitt is a lifelong angler and has ample experience participating in amateur competitions around the country. He served as a Boat Captain for the Trinity Bass Fishing team during the 2023-2024 season.

John will serve Trinity as a paraprofessional head coach at Trinity. He is currently the Chief Revenue Officer and Founder of Dark Fiber and Infrastructure, a private builder and operator of dark fiber and conduit infrastructure in Maryland and Northern Virginia.

A Trinity graduate of the class of 1990, John resides in Louisville with his family. His son, Raymond, will be a junior at Trinity in the fall. John said, “I consider it an honor to be able to continue the tradition that Kevin and those before him have established here at Trinity. I am looking forward to being able to marry my love for the outdoors and my appreciation for the opportunity to share my experiences with the young men of Trinity and having them share their experiences with me.”

Director of Athletics-elect Sean Duggins remarked, “I am very excited to announce John as our next Head Coach of the Trinity Bass Fishing program. This role requires someone who is energetic, enthusiastic, and has a strong drive to fish, teach, and manage our anglers. John is all those things and will be a great fit for our Bass Fishing program at Trinity. Most importantly, he knows Trinity’s mission – who we are, what our values are and how we go about building Men of Faith and Men of Character.”

We congratulate Head Coach John Schmitt.
