From June 14-21, Hayden Deitz ’25 and Ian Beierle ’25 competed in the National Speech and Debate Association’s national tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.
Hayden and Ian were the only Kentucky debate team to advance out of the preliminary rounds, placing them in the Top 70 in the country out of approximately 300 teams in Public Forum Debate.
After elimination, they competed individually where Ian also advanced out of the preliminary rounds in Extemporaneous Debate, placing him in the Top 120 students out of 1088 students entered. Again, Ian was the only Kentucky student in the event who advanced out of prelims.
