Magre Honor Alumnus

TRINITY HIGH SCHOOL

2025 HONOR ALUMNUS AWARD

PRESENTED TO

MICHAEL MAGRE ’83

Each spring, the Trinity High School Alumni Association recognizes a brother alumnus as the year’s Honor Alumnus. The award is presented to a Trinity graduate who is committed to living his life based on Gospel values; is a recognized leader in his community and/or chosen career; and who values his Trinity education and remains loyal to his alma mater.

A member of the Trinity Class of 1983, Michael Magre has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Honor Alumnus Award.

Mike is the epitome of what the Trinity Honor Alumnus Award represents. His commitment to Catholic education will resound at Trinity for many years. Mike learned of, accepted and now lives the values that Trinity teaches. He is a true “educator” in every aspect of the word.

Mike began his career at Trinity in 1990. He is currently the junior and senior counselor for the Honors and Academic programs at Trinity. He also teaches theology, is co-moderator of the Sts. Peter and Paul Society and serves as the morning and after-school cafeteria proctor.

Mike enrolled at Trinity after graduating from St. Martha Catholic School. Mike’s brother, John, is a 1988 Trinity alumnus.

As a Trinity student, Mike was a manager for the football team for four years. He also received three Shamrock Awards.

Mike continued his education at the University of Louisville, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1987. He earned a master’s degree in education from U of L in 1999 and a master’s degree in theology from St. Meinrad Seminary School of Theology in 2023.

After teaching full-time in the classroom for 12 years, Mike earned his counseling degree to reach students on a more personal level. Even as a counselor, he continues to teach a class every day and has worked within the Archdiocese of Louisville for 35 years as a teacher, coach, volunteer and counselor. He is a lifelong Catholic who has heard and responded to God’s call at home, in his parish and at work. Mike is a humble man, full of good humor, with a passion for helping others. He builds trusting relationships in an environment of hospitality while actively urging young men to pursue a prayerful and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Mike is a counselor first, an advocate for his students when they need him most. At the same time, he holds high standards and is not one to allow a student to get away with anything but his best effort.

Mike has served as an assistant football coach and an assistant and head track coach. He also was moderator of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Additionally, he is a “go to” retreat leader for our campus ministers, often working several retreats each year. He is especially effective as a senior retreat leader, an experience our seniors frequently laud as the most formative time of their four years. These four-day Christian Awakening retreats are exhausting for staff who work them but also lastingly rewarding. In Trinity’s history, few have led more retreats that Mike, meaning he has helped thousands of young men explore and enrich their relationships with God and our Church.

Additionally, over the past 10 years, Mike has led Trinity's efforts to prevent bullying. He helped design a day of recollection for freshmen to raise awareness of bullying and help students find positive solutions to this issue.

Mike has been recognized for his service to Trinity and the community. Trinity honored him with the Coach of the Year Award (2007), Excellence in Achievement Award (2023) and the Gene Eckert Service Award (2024). In 2013, he was honored by the community with the St. Matthews Area Chamber of Commerce Community Pride Service Award. In 2009, he was named a finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year. In 2025, the Archdiocese of Louisville honored Mike with the Irene Casey Inclusion Award.

Mike and his wife, LeAnn, are active members of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. They have two children, Lacy Magre Williams (Assumption, 2017) and Dale Michael “Trey” Magre III (Trinity, 2021), and one granddaughter, Ellie Hazel Williams.
